Beacon Roofing Supply Announces Appointment of Ross Cooper as General Counsel

PEABODY, Mass., May 12, 2006 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Beacon Roofing Supply, Inc. (Nasdaq: BECN) ("Beacon" or the "Company") today announced the appointment of Mr. Ross D. Cooper as Senior Vice-President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary. Mr. Cooper's successful legal background includes experience in general business, contract and construction litigation, securities, antitrust, employment practices, intellectual property, and government contracts.

Mr. Cooper began his legal career with the Washington, D.C. office of Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson, after which he became a trial attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice, where he received the Attorney General's Outstanding Achievement Award from 1993-1995. Mr. Cooper returned to private practice with the Washington, D.C. office of Kaye, Scholer, LLP, and for the last seven years he has been a shareholder at Shulman, Rogers, Gandal, Pordy & Ecker, P.A., where he is the Chairman of the Business Dispute Practice Group. For the last ten years, Mr. Cooper has served as outside general counsel of Building Suppliers Corporation, LLC, an organization of preeminent roofing and construction materials wholesale distributors in the Untied States, of which Beacon is a member.

Mr. Cooper received a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Cornell University and a J.D., with high honors from George Washington University Law School, where he earned the Order of the Coif and was a member of the George Washington Law Review.
